Hottest Trend in the Industry at the Motor Show
They have invaded Hollywood with their body kits and spoilers, subwoofers and tweeters, their low-profile tires and engine management systems, and now they have invaded the 2003 Edmonton Motor Show. Who are they? The V8less. What does V8less stand for? Sport compact, import and non OEM-V8 equipped vehicles. Sport compact car modification has become all the rage bringing in an estimated $2 billion in sales for 2002, and is still on the rise. It seems that the road is filled with this new generation of cars, and now 30 of the hottest examples can be viewed at the Motor Show.
V8less has taken over a portion of "SpeedLane" at the Show, and with their cars comes music and women. There will be a DJ to supply all the music you can handle, not to mention a calendar shoot fully equipped with fashion models. Not only are these cars aesthetically pleasing, but they also have many modifications under the hood as well. You will also get to see some of the showcase cars built by the suppliers like Matrix, Fx Design, and others who offer a variety of equipment to this genre of enthusiast. Not only do they supply cars designed specifically for racing, but also wild show cars, where even the smallest detail did not go unnoticed. Among the vehicles that are part of this exhibit; a BMW 323i, a Honda Civic SI, and a Honda Prelude will give you an insight as to what can be accomplished. These cars were gone over with a fine tooth comb, and anything specified for maximum performance, as well as aerodynamic advantage has been installed so that they turn heads and can zip down the quarter mile.
Luxury sedan or Sports car? Clem Ho's jet-black BMW 323i cannot avoid the attention it receives. The body itself was modified with front and rear valance panels, side skirts and a 3-piece rear spoiler. It has Hamann headlights with numerous lighting modifications, and to top it off a metallic window tint. Inside the BMW boasts an AC Schnitzer steering wheel, aluminum pedals, shift knob and park break handle. When the pedal is put to the floor the gauge informs you that yes it can speed! When the hood is lifted you can see that the motor's output was increased through the use of a Dinan stage II Engine Software kit.
Moving down the rows of cars you will notice an immaculately kept Civic SI. Owned by Marlon Cayetano, this white, red and black car is one of a kind and as Marlon says "doesn't follow the masses". The California Phantom roof only accentuates the body kit, and the huge 18x7 Khan RSR alloy wheels make it clear that this car was made to move. To add some more Hp to this car Marlon added 5ZIGEN's cannon Ball cat-back exhaust and a DC Sport cold air intake. It doesn't stop there either the BMW also sports a DVD player, VCR and if that wasn't enough a Sega Dreamcast!
A Prelude in Milano red, Eric Paquette's car has a very distinct feature, it has a world-class sound system that finished in the top 5 at the IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association) in October 2000. This is something that cannot be explained, but must be heard to appreciate. The inline-4 engine in the Honda has also had a few goodies added to it. A Garret T3/T04E turbo, Sperco intercooler, and HKS competition blow-off valve are just a few of the modifications. An electronic fuel computer is mounted in the dash of this beast with a separate display in the rear view mirror. Aesthetics have not been spared on this car either. A wings west four-piece Racing Series body kit and Radius R4 alloy wheels make this prelude catch the eye of almost anyone.
These cars and more can be viewed at the Edmonton Motor Show for the first time ever as opens its doors wide for the V8less.
